PRESENT ECOLOGICAL CONDITION OF KUZBASS

Abstract

Kuzbass is characterized by a high concentration of coal enterprises, continuous growth in coal production and enrichment, and as a result, increased negative impacts on environment. For the period from 2010 to 2017 in the conditions of coal production growth in the basin by 36% the total amount of sewage into water bodies has increased by 7.4%. New construction and modernization of the poorly performing sewage water treatment plants made it possible to reduce the contaminated sewage water dumping by 24.1% and to increase the dumping of normatively cleaned sewage waters by 12.9%. The amount of polluting substances released into the atmosphere during this period increased by 16.8% mainly due to methane. As a result of equipping the pollutant emission sources with more effective means of clearing the amount of collected and cleaned pollutants has increased 1.8 times. In connection with the open pit extraction method advanced growth and with increasing development depth the annually disturbed land area increased by 2.9 times, the amount of the generated waste by 1.6 times. The disturbed land reclamation existing pace and the amount of production wastes use do not compensate the environment for their growth. Environmental performance indicators of Kuzbass are higher than the average for the coal industry. However, the share of Kuzbass in technogenic environmental impact at the scale of coal industry remains at a high level. To improve the ecological condition of Kuzbass it needs further improvement of environmental management, increased application and enhancing the effectiveness of environmental protection measures in the directions described in this article.
