Preventive potential of reduction strategy of crimes committing opportunities

Abstract
The article is devoted to the studying of the preventive potential of reduction strategy of crimes committing opportunities. Attention is focused on the issue of the revision of traditional approaches to crime prevention by reason of its low efficiency. The authors noted that the Strategy is an integral part of the general social, special-criminological and individual crime prevention, the task of which is to identify and structure specific, often repetitive situations of committing particular types or groups of crimes, i.e. crime prevention at the microgeographic level. The main idea of the considered strategy is to minimize criminal encroachments by measures for improving the security of the environment, people and property, which requires constant monitoring and analysis of crime at the local level and ingenuity in the implementation of traditional and non-traditional activities. There are examples of foreign and national practice of crime prevention by reducing the possibility of committing crimes. The article concludes that the actual direction for further research is the issue of introducing the Strategy into the modern theory and practice of counteraction to crime in Ukraine.
