PRODUCER ORGANIZATIONS– THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF COLLECTIVE ACTION

Abstract
Dynamic changes in agriculture require new approaches and principles in the conduct of business. Farmers are becoming more actively involved and dependent on the contractual relationship formed. Coordination with the other players in the product chain is hampered by lack of adequate market structures and control over economic activity. Producer organizations a prerequisite for the formation of these economic relationships and improve the competitiveness of the producers themselves. The purpose of this article is to examine and analyze the theoretical framework forming the nature, role and functions of producer organizations, and to examine and analyze the existing legislation in the country regulating the activities of producer organizations and in particular those in sector «Fruits and Vegetables». The stages in the development of producer organizations in Bulgaria are identified.
