Abstract
Most of the life journey of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Goncharuk Grigory Ivanovich is connected with the scientific researches of history and the activities of the People’s Movement of Ukraine which became the symbol of the united Ukrainian intelligentsia of the 90s of the last century. After Ukraine reached independence in 1991, the Department of History and Ethnography of the Odesa National Polytechnic University, headed by G. Goncharuk, selects a new research topic, namely. Among the studies of the activities of national-democratic organizations and parties of Ukraine was selected the reseach of the formation and development of the People’s Movement of Ukraine. G. I. Goncharuk became one of the first researchers in the history of the People’s Movement of Ukraine on the national level, and several scientific publications went out that were touching the various aspects of the work of this party, which resulted that the Movement became the object of the scientific researches. Among the publications of the professor the one monograph should especially have been noted entitled «The People’s Movement of Ukraine, History», that was published in 1997. Nowadays, this monograph is used, in fact, by every Ukrainian scientist who, in one or another way, is touching upon the problems of the history and activities of the Movement. The other way of researches intensified with the opening on the Department of History and Ethnography of Ukraine in 1995 – postgraduate study. Many of the post-graduate students have chosen their research on the history of the People’s Movement of Ukraine, which was in line with the research of their scientific leader Grigory Ivanovich Goncharuk. Out of more than two dozen post-graduate students of Hryhoriy Ivanovich, eight have devoted their Ph.D. dissertations to various aspects of the People’s Movement. G.Goncharuk`s students during the years of Ukrainian independence have studied different aspects of the work of the PMU, they have shown achievements and miscalculations of the party. The vast majority of scientific works on the history of the national movement of Ukraine, published by scientists in the southern region, are looked through by G.I. Goncharuk and his scientific school. The professor not only managed to create his own scientific school, but also encouraged researchers from all the scientific centers of Ukraine to develop the problem by organizing scientific conferences «People’s Movement of Ukraine: a place in history and politics». Such conferences were nine and all were traditionally held in Odesa under his organization. During the years of the existance of the conferences, the leaders of the NRU: Vyacheslav Chornovil, Ivan Drach, Borys Tarasyuk, Gennadiy Udovenko, Yuri Didenko, well-known political figures Lilia Grigorovich, Roman Zvarych, Yuriy Klyuchkovskyi supported and took part in the work. The scientists from universities from Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhgorod, Zaporizhia, Lutsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Kirovograd, Vinnitsa, Sumy, Kriviy Rig, Donetsk and others took part in nine conferences. It should be noted that all nine scientific conferences had one more result - the publication of reports materials. This, besides the aforementioned, characterizes the Professor G. I. Goncharuk as a skilful leader and organizer, a researcher who cares for further scientific development of research of the history of the Movement. It is an undeniable fact that the conferences of different years on the history of the Movement had important positive consequences not only for Odesa. The mentioned conferences became the catalyst for writing a number of articles and monographs on the history of the Movement in all regions of Ukraine, and the Department of History and Ethnography of Ukraine under the direction of the Professor Grigory Ivanovich Goncharuk of the Odessa National Polytechnic University became one of the most powerful research centers in the history of the Movement. The People’s Movement of Ukraine Party appreciated the valuable contribution of G. I. Goncharuk in the research of the PMU, it rewarded the Professor by the Higher Diploma of Merit to the Ukrainian people of the 1st and 2nd degrees. Thus, the Professor G. I. Goncharuk made a significant contribution to the organization of scientific research on the history and activities of the People’s Movement of Ukraine. This contribution can be defined in three directions: personal researches of the Professor Grigory Goncharuk, the creation of research school and the organization of scientific conferences «People’s Movement of Ukraine: a place in history and politics» on the basis of the Department of History and Ethnography of Ukraine, Odesa National Polytechnic University.
