PROSPECTIVE AND RETROSPECTIVE NARRATIVES IN ENGLISH SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE
Journal Title: Записки з романо-германської філології - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue
Abstract
The present paper addresses scientific discourse in light of narrative paradigm. In particular, we reveal modern trend of narrativity and analyze the degree and the level of scientific discourse narrativity. We also consider how this narrative tradition is conveyed in science and how diverse science narratives are. We pay special attention to the prospection and retrospection categories in the scientific discourse. Here belong: structural narratives, narrative covers, non-verbal narratives. All of them create a special functional and stylistic system in the sphere of science communication. Prospection-retrospection mode is cognitively relevant, and expresses the dynamics of old-new knowledge exchange to prove the fact of the existing event and the change of state. They both are the features of scientific discourse narrativization. Modern scientific discourse is dynamic and diverse. Not denying the traditional rules and ways of scientific discourse creation, the language of science tends to meet the requirements of modern society through narrativity.
