Prosthetic rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system in patients with ectodermal dysplasia on the basis of case reports

Abstract

Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare congenital, hereditary disorder that can affect many ectodermal structures. The treatment of ED cases is difficult and requires the cooperation of doctors specialized in various dentistry disciplines. In this paper the authors describe the case of the patients who have never been diagnoses in directions of ED. Specificity of prosthetic treatment was mainly due to the small number of teeth, faulty construction and their reduced size, and the morphological structure of the alveolar bone of maxilla and the alveolar part of mandible. This document shows difficulties that occurred during prosthetic treatment. Difficulties and problems were based on physical and mental bases. Not without significance were the emotions arising from differences caused by the disorder. The satisfaction of aesthetics smile and normal masticatory function and correct articulations were the final effect of the applied treatment.
