PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF ALLOPRINOL, NIFEDIPIN, VITAMIN A AGAINST CCL4 INDUCED ACUTE LIVER INJURY IN EXPERIMENTAL RABBIT MODEL
Journal Title: World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 12
Abstract
Objective: The present study was designed to determine the hepatoprotective effect of well Known drugs Allopurinol, Nifedipine and Vitamin-A in acute liver injury induced by Toxic agent CCL4. Materials & Methods: The normal serum values of ALP,AST,ALT and TSB & TSP were determined in 40 healthy domestic rabbits allocated to five groups-before CCL4 induction and at three occasion 24, 72,120 hr after ALI induction by CCL4 and treatment with the drugs Allopurinol, Nifedepine and Vitamin –A for five Successive days. Results: revealed significant reduction in ALP, AST, ALT&TSB levels with significant elevation in the TSP level of all the tested drugs measured at 120 hr compared with the control and their levels Measured at 72,24 hr. Conclusion: All the tested drugs possess hepatoprotective effect when they are given orally in a dose of 400mg for Allopurinol and 2mg /kg & 8500 IU/kg for nifedipine & Vitamin-A respectively. The histopathological sections of the liver tissue support the real effect of these drugs on ALI.
