Proximal femoral fixation nail in proximal femoral fractures- study on biomechanical forces causing implant failure
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Objective: Purpose of this study is to evaluate biomechanical factors working around hip which leads to implant failure. Knowledge of these biomechanical forces may help in some modification in implant design or developing new operative techniques[ to avoid damage or to strengthen protecting forces working on implant] and it may also help in developing some new postop splint support for patient benefit. Material and Methods: This is a prospective cum retrospective study. All 11 cases with proximal femoral fracture[ # I/T & S/T included] fixed with PFN. Conclusion: To prevent implant failure biomechanical force-vectors has to be compensated by forces generated in opposite direction either by body itself or biomechanical properties of implant either due to its specific design or due to properties of material which is used. If not compensated implant failure may occure.

Functional and radiological outcome of inter-trochanteric fractures treated with minimally invasive D.H.S or proximal femoral nailing: A comparative study
Introduction Intertrochanteric fractures are one of the commonest fractures encountered in orthopaedic practice Treatment of intertrochanteric fractures had turned from totally conservative in the pre 70s to totally surg...
Outcome of plate osteosynthesis in pubic diastasis: an experience of teritiary care centre
Background: Pubic diastasis results from high energy trauma and is often component of polytrauma. When diastasis is >2.5 cm these are unstable fracture and needs fixation. We share our outcome in management of type II &...
Lower End radius fracture: a retrospective study of patients treated with external fixator, a minimal invasive method
Introduction: Fractures of lower end radius remains the most common fracture in emergency room and mostly treated with closed reduction followed by cast of paris of plaster or some surgical procedure in term of minimal i...
Percutaneous transforaminal lumbar endoscopic discectomy: An appropriate outpatient procedure for lumbar disc pathologies in a high output tertiary care centre
Introduction A very common problem that we come across is that of lower backache in middle aged and elderly in which disc prolapse is far more prevalent in the population than realised However radicular steps like spine...
Evaluation of Outcome of Proximal Tibia Fractures managed with MIPPO
Background: The concept of minimally invasive Osteosynthesis using percuatneous plate was established when it is realized that the length and alignment of proximal tibia can be restored with indirect manipulation and red...
