Abstract

Private as political. Dziewczynstwo and COVEN Berlin projects as a construction of political subjectivity in the field of art Two artistic collectives took part in the „Bedtime” exhibition, which was presented on 7 IX – 7 X in the Poznan Arsenal: Dziewczynstwo (Girlhood) and COVEN Berlin, which are associated with the feminist trend in art. The exhibition was based on a participatory strategy, creating a community and skilful use of public and private spheres. Thanks to the transfer of what is private into the public framework, the participants of nightly performative activities created specific forms of “soft” resistance with a highly political potential. Importantly, despite the participatory strategy, the project largely managed to avoid the mechanisms of reproduction of capitalism, which are characteristic of both participation and the “girly” feminism trend.
