Przydatność kliniczna i diagnostyczna oznaczeń D–dimeru w różnych stanach chorobowych
Journal Title: Folia Medica Lodziensia - Year 2016, Vol 43, Issue 1
Abstract
There are many methods dedicated to assessing D–dimer. They are divided into two categories: qualitative and quantitative methods. All the methods are based on immunochemical reaction with the use of monoclonal antibodies against D–Dimer. Nevertheless, the results obtained with use of various methods are not comparable. However detection of D–dimer is used in the diagnosis of many diseases, the disease cannot be defined unambiguously without additional testing. The reason is insufficient specificity of this assay for specific diseases. Elevated D–dimer level is observed in conditions such as: pregnancy, hyperthyroidism, inflammations, tumors, and in elderly patients, but also in a life–threatening conditions like heart attack, disseminated intravascular coagulation, the rupture of the aorta or embolism. It is necessary to adhere to the principles of quality management to ensure reliable and clinically useful results of D–dimer testing.
