Public-private partnerships in the world, Latin America, and Colombia: Importance and perspectives

Abstract

This paper reviews the literature on the emergence of Public-Private Partnerships from 1980 to 2016; it presents their origin, evolution, advantages, obstacles, and models as well as some success stories of financial structures that adopted this approach. Besides, the Latin American and Colombian cases are compared in terms of the mechanisms that have been established and the PPP projects to be executed. The last section presents recommendations for some projects in the Development Plans of Medellín and Antioquia that could be carried out through PPPs.
