Public Security in the Border Area of Zachodniopomorskie Province

Abstract
The location of Zachodniopomorskie province on the border with Germany has an influence on the level and sense of security of its inhabitants. As a border area, the province is characterized by a high development potential in the area of production and services. After Poland signed the Schengen Agreement, the western border of the province has become an internal UE border within Schengen Area, which enables the free movement of people and goods. This situation not only contributes to the social-economic consolidation of the province but also affects people’s sense of security. A survey conducted among inhabitants of districts located along the border concerning the question of security has provided interesting findings about the relationship between the border location and the perceived sense of security. The survey was part of a study carried out by the author for purposes of his PhD dissertation.
