Journal Title: FOLIA GEOGRAPHICA - Year 2012, Vol 54, Issue 1
Abstract
Since its inception the internet has served to share information among its first users. Ever increasing number of internet users, its global reach and the emergence of the phenomenon of social networks greatly encouraged the emergence of technologies for information sharing. with the development of techniques for mapping the Earth‘s surface and their digitalization all the spatial information was moved to the internet. Originally passive viewing of maps is now replaced by the possibility of creating user’s own content to the maps located on the online server and unlimited sharing with other internet users. Google Earth is one of the leading technologies that support this process.
