Quality of life of the elderly accompanied by the family health strategy

Abstract

We sought To investigate the quality of life in the perception of the elderly assisted by the Family Health Strategy (FHS) of a Municipality in the interior of Paraíba. It was a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach, performed with elderly people assisted by the FHS of a municipality in the interior of Paraíba. The sample consisted of 100 elderly people with age equal to or older than 60 years of both sexes, enrolled in the Basic Health Unit of the urban zone. The instruments used for the data collection were two questionnaires (biodemographic and WHOQOL-BREF). The data were analyzed through SPSS. The results showed a greater participation of the female gender (70%) in the research, the majority age group 60-65 years (48%), married (58%), complete primary education (62%), three-quarters (64%) of the majority (90%), retirees (95%), family income of two minimum wages (66%), nonpractitioners of physical activity (54%) are followed for more than ten years by the FHS (55%). The WHOQOL BREF form presented a good quality and satisfaction with its quality of life. The highest scores were for the physical (66.82), psychological (63.38) and environmental (58.50) domains with total QOL of (61.13). The lowest score was in social relations (46.17). The QOL of the elderly in general and on themselves was satisfactory and the familiar and financial living were factors identified as requirements for a good quality of life.
