Ralentissement électroencéphalographique chez les enfants en âge scolaire exposés aux éléments traces métalliques à Lubumbashi/République Démocratique du Congo

Abstract
Les effets des éléments traces métalliques (ETM) sur l’électrophysiologie cérébrale ont suffisamment été rapportés ces dernières décennies. Cependant, à notre connaissance, il n’existe pas de données à ce sujet dans notre milieu. L’objectif de cette étude était de déterminer si l’exposition aux ETM est accompagnée de modifications électroencéphalographiques (EEG) chez les enfants en âge scolaire vivant à proximité d’une industrie minière à Lubumbashi/Haut Katanga/DRC. Les ETM urinaires ont été analysés par spectrométrie de masse avec plasma à couplage inductif (ICP-MS) et l’enregistrement EEG par l’appareil Cadwell Easy II suivant le système 10-20.Les concentrations des ETM analysés étaient toutes supérieures aux limites de référence acceptables, à l’exception du Hg, du Cd et du Se. Dans la majorité des cas (55,79% des cas), un ralentissement de l’EEG a été trouvé : dans 48 % de cas, ce ralentissement était diffus tandis que dans 51 % des cas, il était postérieur.La comparaison des médianes des ETM entre les groupes avec EEG ralenti et EEG normal a été réalisée par le test de Wilcoxon. Il n’a pas été noté de différence statistiquement significative. Nos résultats imposent une étude à large échelle qui permettra l’établissement d’un référentiel EEG dans notre milieu.
