RAZVOJ DEMOKRACIJE IZMEĐU PRVOG I DRUGOG SVJETSKOG RATA / DEVELOPMENT OF DEMOCRACY BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WAR

Abstract
The ideas of democracy existed even before the twentieth century, however its more powerful development can only be observed after the First World War. The twentieth century’s trend of democratization of European societies entered the crisis period soon, and many newly established democracies were completely destroyed. The Mussolini’s Marsh on Rome (1922) is being considered as the beginning of an authoritarian coup on democracy. In the early thirties the majority of newly-formed democracies broke up and European societies were again oriented towards authoritarian dictatorship. This was the case with the democracies in Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Hungary, Spain, Greece and other countries. More favorable political conditions for the re-development of democracy were created only after the Second World War
