Reading Motivation and Home Literacy Influence among Selected HUMSS in Municipality of Tanza and its Impact to Information Literacy Skills: Input for Developing Technical Assistance of Master Teachers
Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2023, Vol 12, Issue 6
Abstract
Motivation is one of the most crucial elements that might alter a reader's capacity to comprehend what they read. Literacy is based on a solid foundation provided by the student's home environment, which also plays a significant role in the development of the student's motivation, self-efficacy, and reading abilities. With that said, this study was proposed to assist master teachers in suggesting policies and programs. An evaluation of reading motivation was conducted using a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire. Home literacy influence was scored on a 4-point Likert scale in order to gauge reading engagement, home modeling, library, and bookshop interests. The pupils' information literacy was evaluated using a 12-item, Adebayo-created Likert scale questionnaire. By using multiple regression, the findings showed that the level of reading motivation and information literacy skills had a significant relationship. However, there is no significant relationship between home literacy influence and information literacy skills. Finally, the Project D.I.S.C.E.R.N. (Developing Interest, Skills, Competency, and Evaluating Reading Needs) program was also implemented for technical assistance for master teachers and to develop interest, skills, and competency, as well as evaluate reading needs.
