Rebasing of removable dentures with use of resilient materials: Causes of failures

Abstract
Over many years the denture relining technique with use of resilient materials has been used in clinical practice of prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with numerous teeth loss. This paper presents the causes of therapeutic failures in the application of relining using soft materials. Flexible materials for denture reline, so helpful in the prosthetic treatment, owing to their properties are not devoid of qualities that are often the cause of therapeutic failures. The most common cause of failure is the lack of patient’s compliance with doctor’s advice on personal hygiene, prolonged and excessive use of rebasing. At the same time the unjustified relining of dentures with flexible materials can lead to irreversible damage to the prosthetic surface, irritation and inflammation of oral mucosa, fungal infections, and bad mouth odour and taste disturbances.
