Reduction of negative environmental impact generated by residues of plant tissue culture laboratory
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2016, Vol 16, Issue 1
Abstract
The research is based on the activity developed by teaching and research laboratories for biotechnology purposes with an environmental approach to determine potential contamination risk and analyze the residuals generated. The physical - chemical characterization of the residuals was carried out from contamination indicators that can affect the dumping of residual water. In order to identify the environmental risks and sources of microbial contamination of plant material propagated by in vitro culture that generate residuals, all the risk activities were identified, the type of risk involved in each activity was analyzed, as well as whether or not the standards were met of aseptic normative. The dilution and neutralization was proposed for residuals with extreme values of pH. Since the results of the work a set of measures was proposed to reduce the negative environmental impact of the laboratory residuals.

Study of genetic affinities in clones of Manihot esculenta Crantz of economic importance for Cuba
The genetic affinity were studied between 12 Cassava clones (Manihot esculenta Crantz) after studying the isozymatical systems: Peroxidase, Phenoloxidase and Carbonic Anhidrase. The MAT-GEN program was used for the analy...
Use of mutagenesis to improve stem thickness of sugarcane somaclone IBP 89-169
The present work was realized with the aim to improve the somaclon IBP 89-169 selected as highly resistant to the smut of the sugarcane (Ustilago scitaminea Syd) and procedent of the variety Ja 60-5, but imposibilited t...
Use of Temporary Immersion Systems as an alternative for the in vitro propagation of the plantain cultivar ‘INIVITPV06-30’ (Musa AAB)
Temporary Im mersion Systems (TIS) had been used for in v it r o multiplication of different cultivars of Musa spp. achieving high coefficients of multiplication. This investigation was carried out to focussed on the mu...
In vitro response of Phaseolus vulgaris L. seeds cultivar 'Ica Pijao' irradiated with different doses of Gamma radiation
The lower yields in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) worldwide is due primarily to abiotic factors. For this reason the search for tolerant varieties is one of the objectives of the breeding programs in this species....
Nitrogen removal from sugarcane vinasse by heterotrophic culture of filamentous cyanobacteria Geitlerinema sp.
Vinasse is the main liquid effluent from the production process of fuel ethanol from sugarcane (Saccharum spp.). Due to the large volumes generated, its treatment is one of the biggest challenges for the sugar sector....
