REGIONALISM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION SAFETY

Abstract
In recent decades regionalism has become a more and more popular in Europe. Regional movements became noticeable, especially in such countries as Belgium, Spain, Ireland. Internal conflicts of nationalistic background is a problem for both the European Union as a whole, but to a greater extent for each Member State on whose territory they occur. Regional movements are accompanied by the states' political re-forms that reach towards decentralization and federalization. Popularity manifestation of regionalism in the European Union was so called the idea of a “Europe of Re-gions”. The Union uniformity creates demand for customs, language, regional prod-ucts. On the other hand it shows selfishness of rich regions, wishing to separate them-selves from the poorer parts of their countries. Considering the policy and safety with-in the EU, the conflicts arising from the aspirations of the Regions to increase their autonomy should not pose a serious threat to the security and consistency of the Un-ion. Regardless the assessment of regionalism in Europe it is a significant phenome-non that is worth analysis.
