Abstract
The pertinent analysis of the New Romanian Civil Code, corroborated not only with the doctrine of Jus romanum antiqum (the old Roman law) and with the Byzantine (state and canonical) legislation, but also with the Church legislation (orthodox and roman-catholic), has given us the opportunity to notice that the religious Engagement institution (which the Romanian legislator did not recognize in the New Civil Code, despite its considerable age) also enjoyed a real legal status, hence his compulsoriness that – for the future – to take also in consideration this old institution.
