RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEPRESSION AND VARIOUS FACTORS IN FEMALE INFERTILITY PATIENTS

Abstract

Introduction-Infertility is a problem that affects millions of people across the world both physically and mentally.The impact of infertility on the psychological wellbeing of female has been the object of increasing attention in recent years. Aim-Aim of this study is to evaluate the factors associated with depression in female infertility patients. Method- The present study adopted ex-post facto study design. On basis of simple random sampling 103 female participants from PPC OPD, DHH, Kendrapada & Bhagabati Hospital, Kendrapada,103 infertile female participantswere selected and further HAM-D was administered. The association between depression score with age, socioeconomic status, and educational status, duration of infertility and employment status of participants were examined. Result-The study showed that 67% women had depression. Where depression had a significant relation with higher age group [35-39 and >_40 age groups], higher middle socio economic status, unemployment and duration of infertility [>4 year] and less years of education. Conclusion-Higher age group, unemployment, high middle socio economic status, less years of education of infertile participants are highly associated with their depression scores. More the duration of infertility higher is the level of depression.
