Relationship between the myofascial system and symptoms suggesting cholelithiasis – case study
Journal Title: Medycyna Ogólna i Nauki o Zdrowiu - Year 2012, Vol 18, Issue 4
Abstract
The most common symptom of cholelithiasis is a severe pain in the right hypochondrium, combined with vomiting and fever – so-called biliary colic. This pain is caused by increased pressure in the gallbladder as a result of blocked bile flow caused by accumulated deposits, accompanied by gallbladder contraction under the influence of food stimulus. Structural integration is a bodywork method based on connective tissue manipulation aimed at increasing mobility of tissue in myofascial system. The patient’s symptoms are treated as arising from the imbalance in the entire myofascial system, and the area of their occurrence – only as a nexus, where a collapse of compensatory abilities took place. The paper presents the case of a 31-year-old woman who went to the doctor on 27 January 2011 with severe pain in her right hypochondrium, accompanied by vomiting, dizziness and fever. Suspecting biliary colic caused by cholelithiasis, the patient was referred for abdominal ultrasound (02.09.2011), basic biochemical tests and blood cell counts. The results were standard. She was recommended to implement a light diet and to keep a diary of pain experienced. Episodes of pain still occurred (a few times a month). Since 14 April 2011, patient received a series of SI treatments. Tension occurring within the following myofascial lines: superficial back line, superficial front line, lateral line and spiral line was balanced. Self-therapy treatment was administered. From the end of treatment series until now (January 2012) no pain has been been reported. Pain relief after a series of treatments focused on the soft tissues may indicate a relationship between dysfunctions of the locomotor organs and internal organs.
