Reliability Analysis of A Cantilever Beam with Circular Hole Depending on Stress-Concentration Factor By Using Monte Carlo Simulation Method
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
Stress-concentration factor (SCF) is known to be the ratio of the maximum experimental stress around the sudden change of the geometric shape to the theoretical nominal or reference stress. Recently, the investigation of SCF under uncertainty has received intensive attention. In this work, it is aimed to realize reliability analysis of a cantilever beam with a circular hole having random design parameters in consideration of deterministic and stochastic yield strength, and to model the common properties of the statistical characteristics of the outputs. As for the original contributions of this work to the literature, due to the modelled statistical characteristics of SCF and nominal stress, it is considered to reduce the computer cost. Moreover, it can be possible to directly realize reliability analysis without the necessity of an intermediate model and high number of simulations, and thus, to conduct this process in a more practical way by reducing the analysis period. Additionally, in the future works, when this stochastic approach followed in this work is applied to other beams with different geometries and exposed to different loadings, a guideline of SCF for reliable design under uncertainty can be obtained.
