Religious groups and congregations in Kyrgyzstan

Abstract

The Kyrgyz people who became Muslim in the 9th and 10th century protected their religious faiths and traditions until the Soviet regime; but, they were exposed to serious problems in terms of religious faith and practices during the Soviet regime. However, with the gaining of their independency, they had some important gains in religious field as well as other areas and serious developments were lived in religious practices. Recognizing of the state the freedom of religion and conscience for people has revived the faith of people and begun to return rapidly to Islam. While they were under the attack of atheism in a short time ago, on the one hand, they tried to learn Islam, on the other hand, they tried to protect some superstitions in the name of Islam that prevailed among people before accepting Islam.
