RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE IN AZERBAIJAN

Abstract
In the article, the events held in the field of protection of religious tolerance in the Republic of Azerbaijan by Heydar Aliyev are described. The policy pursued in the years of his reign, corresponding to the interests of the people, also taking into account multinationality and various religious beliefs is covered, the policy of religious tolerance for the traditions and customs of each people is demonstrated in the country. On November 16, 1995, at the 28th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, a declaration on the principles of tolerance was adopted and on November 16 it was declared the International Day of Tolerance. As a result of this, in 1998 the international conference "Modernity and Religious and Moral Values" was held in Baku. Based on this approach, on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijan since 1999, November 16 began to be celebrated as the Day of Tolerance and the article reflects the work done by him in this field.
