Removal of organic matter from municipal wastewater using ICMBBR (intermittent cycle moving bed biofilm reactor)

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 8

Abstract

New biological processes highlighted (considered-identified) as successfully wastewater treatment technologies. This study (paper) carried out to investigate the ICMBBR (intermittent cycle moving bed biofilm reactor) efficiency for organic matter removal from municipal wastewater. A laboratory –scale Plexiglas reactor with volume of 4 Lit was used in this study. The ICMBBR reactor was filled by kaldness with specific biofilm surface area of 400 m3/m2 and (20%-50%) of reactor volume added. The reactor was operated with HRT, of 3-6 hr., which consists of aerobic and anaerobic zone. The result of study revealed the mean removal efficiency in ICMBBR was reached to 5.39%±1.9, 94.7%±1.7, 95.2%±1.5, 95.3%±1.4, 94.3%±1.8 for COD, BOD. TSS, VSS, Turbidity respectively. By under condition (aeration of 4 hr. mixing time of 90 min and when 50% of volume reactor was occupied, the maximum removal efficiency reached to 97.3%,97.5%,98.1%,98%,97.5%.This research confirm that ICMBBR considered as appropriate(practical-promising) technologies for removal of organic matter from municipal wastewater.
