RESILIENT THERAPY: A THERAPEUTIC APPROACH THROUGH CASE REPORTS WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF CRISIS INTERVENTION MODEL

Abstract

September 11 attacks in America has been a milestone for crisis intervention model and practice. Cases unsolved by people on their own cause crisis. Ultimate aim of crisis intervention model is to support coping mechanisms of the individual or to help individual take concrete steps by developing coping and problem solving skills. The resiliency term is defined as coping capacity against challenges, demands and pressure without experiencing negative effects. Social work practitioners’ transition from pathologic focus to strengths perspective has increased the significance of the therapy. In different contexts, resilient therapy is designed to be used in therapies with children, families and adolescents. It is an output-focused strategic therapy aimed to provide needs for children, families and adolescents. Resilient therapy has great potential and thus has important place within social work field since it contributes much to increase and empower coping strategies of individuals and provides opportunity to easily apply the therapy under limited conditions, and it contains existential values of social work such as empowerment, support, participation, advocacy, need and aim for change. Therefore, the aim of this article is to proclaim that resilient therapy has great potential to be an alternative as a therapeutic approach within social work practice.
