Resistance of Screen-Printed PVC Foils to External Influence

Journal Title: Machine Design - Year 2018, Vol 10, Issue 3

Abstract

The goal of this study was to examine the resistance of manually screen-printed PVC foils to external influences such as mechanical effect (colour rendering). Since this study includes an examination of transparent, self-adhesive foils intended for outdoor use, their resistance to this external influence is significant. The aim of this study is to define the optimal combination of parameters which would result in the most resistant screen-printed foil. Varied parameters were: foils, mesh count, and inks, all resulting with eighteen different test samples. Samples were tested (exposed to external influences) in a specialised laboratory after printing. Before and after testing, visual analysis of scanned samples were performed after which the results were compared and analysed. This comparison brought to the determination the amount of resistance of the print to external influence. Based on the obtained results, the conclusion was made that there were differences between the tested samples in the resistance given to mechanical influences. It was determined that the type of the substrate (foil) had the least impact on the resistance of the prints, while the mesh count, and, particularly the used ink, had a greater impact.
