Resistance to commonly used Antineoplastic Drugs -An Upcoming Challenge

Journal Title: The Indian Practitioner - Year 2014, Vol 67, Issue 7

Abstract

Cancer is fast emerging as one of the deadliest diseases to afflict mankind, especially in today’s stress filled world of urbanisation and pollution. In days bygone, cancer was considered as a death sentence as very few anticancer drugs were known at that time. However, with the rapid development in the field of research and medicine, several new antineoplastic drugs have emerged as a boon for humanity. But with the advent of these drugs, there has been an increasing risk of resistance to their effect, thereby reducing their overall potential in treating various malignancies.
