RESISTANCE TO POWDERY MILDEW OF WHEAT-ALIEN HYBRIDS AND PARENTAL FORMS

Abstract

Powdery mildew of wheat, caused by Blumeria graminis (DC.) Speer f. sp. tritici = Erysiphe graminis DC. f. sp. tritici, is one of the most common and damnific diseases of wheat. Growing resistant varieties is an effective measure to reduce crop losses. Therefore, the search for new sources of resistance to powdery mildew remains a problem. The aim is to assess the resistance to powdery mildew of wheat-alien hybrids and their parental forms. For the study 56 chromosomal partial amphiploids PA (Triticum aestivum L. × Thinopyrum ponticum (Podp.) Z.-W. Liu and R.-C. Wang) (hereinafter PA 1), PA (Triticum aestivum L. × Thinopyrum intermedium (Host) Barkworth & DR Devey) (hereinafter PA 2), H 79 / 9-9 (Triticum aestivum L. × Elymus sp.) (hereinafter N79 / 9-9), Triticum aestivum L. varieties Albatross odesskiy, Fantasiya odesskaya, Zhatva Altaya and their hybrids, F2-F4 were used. Assessment of resistance to powdery mildew was carried out for three years in the field infectious nursery at the provocative background. High resistance was shown by incomplete wheat-wheatgrass amphiploids. Their hybrids from crossing with the disease-sensitive wheat varieties were heterogeneous at to the resistance to the fungus (their resistance varied from medium sensitive to resistant). The most stable forms were found in crossing Zhatva Altaya x PA 2 and PA 1 x Zhatva Altaya. The reciprocal effects as to resistance to powdery mildew in crossing of wheat Zhatva Altaya with PA 1 were detected. Resistance to the disease significantly dependdt on weather conditions in the year of tests
