Response of different types of winter oilseed rape varieties to crop production systems. I. Characteristics of ripening plants of oilseed rape and components of seed yield

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2009, Vol 30, Issue 1

Abstract

The basis of the investigations were field experiments carried out in Zielęcin (N 52°10' E 16°22') and Łagiewniki (N 51°46' E 17°14') in 2005/6–2007/8. The experiments were conducted in a split-plot design. Reaction of different breeding types of winter rape hybrids was investigated. The investigated types were as follows: composite hybrids (Kaszub and Pomorzanin) and restored hybrids (Kronos and Extrem) and open pollinated variety (Bojan) as a check. Two levels of production, standard and intensive, were studied. In the standard level one herbicyde after sowing (Pronap 400 SC), 100 kg·ha-1 of nitrogen in the spring and full pests control were applied. The intensive system as compared to the standard level was characterized by full weed control (two herbicides after sowing: Command 480 EC + Butisan 400 SC and if necessary foliar herbicide in autumn or in spring), application of growth regulator with fungicide proprieties — Caramba 60 SL in autumn, N fertilization higher by 60 kg·ha-1, foliar sulphur and microelements application, full disease control, application of Elastiq 550 EC preparation to diminish silique cracking as well as one-stage harvest. Presowing fertilization with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was carried out in the same doses (30-60-120 of kg·ha-1) in both production systems.Higher input to the crop production increased seeds yield by about 8% as compared to standard technology. The intensity of production technology did not interact with variety. Seeds yields were influenced by: intensity of production technology, the genetic factor (variety), weather and environmental conditions. Morphological features of plants before harvest as well as yield components were dependent mainly on environmental and climatic conditions and also on genetic characteristic of a variety. They were less dependent on the input level of crop production system. The application of Elastiq 550 EC at the beginning of ripening in the intensive system increased siliques resistance to cracking in all studied varieties. It was demonstrated by significantly higher value of force necessary for siliques opening.
