Response of different types of winter oilseed rape varieties to crop production systems. II. Quality of seeds yield

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2009, Vol 30, Issue 1

Abstract

Field trials were carried out in years 2005/6–2007/8 at Agricultural Experimental Stations in Wielichowo Zielęcin (N 52°10' E 16°22') and Łagiewniki (N 51°46' E 17°14'). Two crop production systems and three types of winter rape varieties: composite hybrids ( Kaszub and Pomorzanin) and restored hybrids (Kronos and Extrem) and open pollinated variety (Bojan) were studied. Description of experiment is given in part I of this publication. The intensity level of applied technology had a significant effect on fat content and total protein content in seeds, however it differentiated very faintly fatty acids composition of oil and glucosinolate content in seeds of all studied cultivars. The intensive crop production system which was characterized by N fertilization higher by 60 kg·ha-1 produced seeds which in all studied cultivars accumulated more (by 0.5%) of total protein as well as they contained less (by 1.1%) of fat as compared to seeds produced with a standard system. The content of fat, proteins and glucosinolate in seeds as well as composition of fatty acids in oil were more dependent on cultivar and environment than from crop production system. The highest content of fat, total protein and glucosinolates accumulated in the seeds of composite hybrid Kaszub (respectively 41.9 and 21.8% as well as 17.1 M·g-1 seeds). The lowest fat (41%) content was in seeds of restored hybrid Extrem. The lowest total protein and glucosinolates content was in the seeds of restored hybrid Kronos (respectively 20.6% and 10.1 M·g-1 seeds).During the period of 3 years of investigations the content of fat varied about 5.6 and total protein about 4.3 proportional points, and glucosinolates content by 2.7 M·g-1 seeds. The seeds of studied rape varieties grown in Łagiewniki in comparison with seeds from Zielęcin contained significantly more fat (by 4.2 proportional points), however they accumulated less total protein (by 2 proportional points) and glucosinolates (by 2.8 M·g-1 seeds). The differences of fat content and total protein content between varieties did not exceed one proportional point. The study showed that the interaction between cultivars and intensity of production technology was not significant and also had no effect on quality of seeds and oil.
