RETÓRICA DA METÁFORA EM REPORTAGENS SOBRE ECONOMIA: O VERBO EM FOCO

Abstract

From the point of view of the Rhetoric science and in a cognitive perspective, the aim of the present study is to approach the rhetorical role developed by the metaphorical verbs and verbal locutions in the news regarding economy extracted from IstoÉ – Dinheiro and Exame magazines.We hypothesized that they perform three complementary and integrated rhetorical strategies: condensation of analogies, didactical transposition and aesthetical creation –making accessible and interesting respectively. In this tridimensional dynamic, the verbal metaphor constitutes a crucial point in the discourse production: it is part of the author’s subjectivity. For that reason we see its use as a strategy – in this case, linguistic features that are thought and used as for persuasion. At the same time, it constitutes a critical point in the interpretation: it presupposes the contribution of the reader and expects his competence and critical sense for unveil what the metaphors manifests or hide from view. Thus, it is demonstrated that the metaphor, rather than being a language figure, constitutes a way of thinking, representing and, when it comes to the persuasive discourse, it shows some reality from a specific point of view.
