Abstract

Rıfkı Melûl Meriç, one of the prominent figures of poetry in Turkish literature in Republican period, has given quite a bit of work in the form of rubai verse, which is frequently used in classical literature. Meriç, who is closely related to Turkish decorative arts and Turkish architecture, is a poet who has put out a foundation for classical poetry aesthetics. It is said that the poet, who wrote works of poetry such as gazel, kaside, tahmis, tarih, sonne and books some of his poems with İnkıraz (1928), is said to be a great number of poets who do not enter this poetical book. Some of the unlisted rubies were published by Hilmi Ziya Ülken in the name of Rubaiyyât-ı Melûl (1951). A part of his rubaies was first published by Muhtar Tevfikoğlu in the Turkish Culture magazine and later in Rıfkı Melûl Meriç’s (1986) biography, along with his other poems. It is understood, however, that his many poems have disappeared or are scattered in the hands of close relatives of their friends. In this study, the subject frame of poetry understanding and poetry will be examined through rubaies which is determined to belong poetry. It will be focused on rubaies, which Rıfkı Melûl Meriç's are not included in the magazines, poetry books, and the rubaies will be given.
