Risk factors for breast cancer in medical students from Matanzas

Abstract

Introduction: breast cancer is a systemic, multifactorial, polymorphic disease characterized by malignant, accelerated, disorderly and uncontrolled proliferation of cells with mutated genes. Is common in women and unusual in men. Objective: to identify the main risk factors for breast cancer, present in students of both sexes, of the medical career, of the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas Methodological Design: a descriptive observational study was carried out in 39 medical students of the male sex and 54 of the female sex, selected in a simple random way. They were interviewed on risk factors for breast cancer, using variables in too sex. The results were expressed in absolute and percentage values and were presented in tables. Results: the use of antiperspirants and the ingestion of high-fat diets predominated in men; in women, the ingestion of contraceptive pills and that the majority presented menarche before the age of 15. Conclusions: the main risk factors for breast cancer were identified, present in students of both sexes, of the medical career, of the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas. Despite the youth of the students, there are risk factors for the disease in them.
