Risk Factors for Ischemic Heart Disease. Study of a biennium

Abstract

Introduction:ischemic heart disease, particularly myocardial infarction, constitutes the main health problem in developed countries of the world and in Cuba. Objective: to determinate the most frequent risk factors for myocardial infarction in patients admitted to the intermediate and intensive therapy rooms of the Mario Muñoz Monroy General Teaching Hospital in Colon, in the period between January 2018 and November 2019. Materials and methods: an observational cross-sectional study was carried out on the behavior of risk factors in 92 patients with acute myocardial infarction who were admitted to the intermediate and intensive care unit Mario Muñoz Monroy General Teaching Hospital in Colon, Matanzas, in the period between January 2018 and November 2019. Results:it has a higher frequency in males in patients 50-59 years of age. Hypertension was the most frequent risk factor, followed by smoking. There were a high percentage of cases that were adequately unaware of the disease. Conclusions:emphasis should be placed on the prevention of risk factors, especially in males, with special attention to those with a greater association such as smoking and obesity. There should be a greater knowledge about the disease from the base in Primary Health Care.
