ROLE OF FORESTS IN THE LIGHT OF CONSUMER PREFERENCES

Abstract

Public preferences concerning the forest and forest resources utilizing are various. The main goal of the study was to recognize the public preferences (especially an example on visitors to the Forest Promotion Area Lasy Beskidu Sądeckiego and Forest Promotion Area Sudety Zachodnie) to a range of the forest utilizing. Present analysis is trying to identify the importance of the factors which motivate society to visit the forests, and public expectation according to visual-esthetics and characteristics of the forest areas. The research found, that society argues that the main function of the forest areas is an ecological one, and protective function: it produces oxygen and helps to keep water and moisture within the ground of the forest. Another function of the forest is that it holds the earth together with its roots, and provides a habitat for plant and animal life. Less important view of the people selected was the social function of the forest with it being a place to be visited by the general public, and the least important function was its productivity function.
