Role of high frequency ultrasound in evaluation of parotid gland pathologies

Journal Title: MedPulse -International Medical Journal - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 10

Abstract

Aim: To present the imaging spectrum of parotid pathologies. Materials And Methods: 42 patients suspicious of parotid pathologies were included in the study. High resolution transducer was the primary transducer used but convex transducer was used as necessary. Colour and power Doppler helped in identifying vascularity and guiding interventions. Modification of pressure could cause tenderness. Hence more of ultrasound gel was used with minimal pressure. Pathologies as have been listed below were identified. Results: Out of total 42 patients, Parotitis(9), parotid abscess(3), intraparotid nodes(6), parotid dermoid(1), pleomorphic adenoma(3), sjogrens syndrome(3), Normal(17) were identified.
