Role of Perceived Social Support and Self-Efficacy in Promotion of Health Elderly

Abstract
Aging is a critical period of life and attention to the issues and needs of this very important that is often neglected. Several factors can effect on the elderly health, such as self-efficacy and social support. This study performed with aimed to determination the role of social support, self-efficacy and perceived barriers to health promotion in elderly population of Freidan city. This study was a cross-sectional research that performed among 179 elderly Freidan in random sampling method. Data collections were 3 questionnaires include; general self-efficacy, social support and barriers to improving the elderly health where completed by interview. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS-18 with using descriptive and analytical tests such as Pearson correlation, ANOVA and independent T-test at significance level of 0.05. The mean age participants were 66.49±6.77 years, 52% female and 48% male. Social support and self-efficacy had a significant positive impact on increases each other and inversely associated with perceived barriers. Lack of proper facilities, lack of money, lack of proper transportation and mental- physical health problems were the greatest barriers. Men efficacy was higher, social support of married, city resident, primary education were higher, perceived barriers of illiterate and village residents were more. Recommended for promotion elderly health in addition considering to effective mental factors, such as social support and self-efficacy, so considered other issues such as facilities, transportation, money and consider.
