Role of Serum zinc in chronic tonsillitis – A case control study
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Biochemistry - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Background: Chronic tonsillitis is the chronic inflammation of the palatine tonsils. It is a chronic inflammatory process where the immune system is altered leading to low antioxidants level. Zinc acts by maintaining tissue function and immunity. Objectives: The present study was carried out to study relationship between serum zinc levels and chronic tonsillitis. Materials and methods: It is a case control study carried on 50 cases of clinically diagnosed chronic tonsillitis and 50 healthy controls. Serum zinc levels were measured in both cases and controls. Results: Serum zinc levels were significantly decreased in cases of chronic tonsillitis as compared to controls Conclusion: Serum zinc has role in maintaining tissue function and its supplementation in deficient individuals helps in faster recovery.

Hospital based study on prevalence and risk factors for microalbuminuria in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients attending medical college and hospital
Diabetes is major public health problem leading to different complications. Diabetic nephropathy initially presents as microalbuminuria and its management may slow the progress of the disease. The present hospital based...
A study of diagnostic utility of serum ischemia modified albumin and IMA index in ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke patients
Background: Stroke is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, however, biochemical markers to aid in its early detection are lacking. As Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA) is a novel marker for ischemia and prev...
Correlation of Resistin levels with risk factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with ischemic stroke
Background: Ischemic stroke in diabetic individuals is complex in nature with contributions from both environmental and genetic factors. Resistin links the metabolic dysregulation to atherosclerosis through selective inh...
