Rooting and acclimatization of outbreaks of Phaseolus vulgaris L. regenerated in vitro

Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2009, Vol 9, Issue 3

Abstract

The genus Phaseolus showed to be recalcitrant to in vitro plant generation, which is a prerequisite to start a breeding program. Influence of IBA in the culture medium and the shoot longitude were studied in order to achieve rooting and acclimatization of regenerated shoots of the cv. CIAP 7247. Survival of plants in the acclimatization phase was also evaluated, as well as morphological characteristics and fertility them. Results showed that IBA is indispensable for roots induction in this variety. Shoots with 1cm or more can be transferred to the rooting culture medium where percentages of roots formation 70.6% and 95% of plants acclimatization are obtained. Differences in the morphological characteristics were not found taking into account color and shape of leaves and shoota. Besides, all the plants were fertile.
