Roughness and Texture Concepts in Tribology
Journal Title: Tribology in Industry - Year 2013, Vol 35, Issue 2
Abstract
Current knowledge on scale and spatial organization of engineering surfaces is presented. Main methods of surface roughness analysis are discussed. A review of theoretical and practical problems in tribology involving concept of rough surface is presented. Critical analysis of rough surface description in the evolution from 2D to 3D set of parameters is carried out. Advantages and disadvantages of traditional and modern approaches of surface analysis based on concepts of roughness and texture are discussed.

Fabrication of LM25/SiO2 Metal Matrix Composite and Optimization of Wear Process Parameters Using Design of Experiment
LM25 aluminium alloy reinforced with 15 wt% SiO2 metal matrix composite was fabricated by liquid metallurgy technique. Microstructure of the fabricated composite specimen was observed using inverted metallurgical microsc...
A Multi Asperity Model of Contact Between a Smooth Sphere and a Rough Flat Surface in Presence of Adhesion
Multi asperity elastic-plastic adhesive contact between a smooth sphere and a rough flat surface is considered. To incorporate the effect of adhesion, JKR (Johnson–Kendall–Roberts) contacts are assumed and the mixed aspe...
A Historical Review on the Tribological Performance of Refrigerants used in Compressors
Refrigerants directly affect the tribological performance of interacting components in a compressor. Since the introduction of artificially formulated refrigerants, the types of refrigerants used in compressors have chan...
Tribological Characterisation of PBT + Glass Bead Composites with the Help of Block-on-Ring Test
The materials involved in this research study were produced by die moulding in order to obtain bone samples type 1A (SR EN ISO 527‐ 2:2003). These composites have a matrix of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) commercial g...
Friction Forces at the Wheel's Contact with the Ground in a Turning Vehicle
Tangential ground reactions are friction forces in their essence. Problems in the description of the frictional contact of the wheel with the ground arise during the curvilinear motion of a vehicle. There is a force and...
