Abstract
The high-speed railway system in Turkey develops very rapidly. The first section Ankara–Eskisehir was opened in 2009. According to UIC data, the total length of high-speed lines in April 2018 achieved 724 km. Moreover 1395 km of lines are under construction, while 1127 km remain in planning phase. The objective set by the government is to serve the half of the population of the country and 18 of 81 provinces with the high-speed trains till 2023 (100th anniversary of the Republic). Hosting the 10th UIC World Congress on High Speed Rail in Ankara in May 2018 had symbolic importance.
