Sacroileitis, as the most common complication of Brucellosis

Abstract

We presented the results of a prospective study on brucellosis patients admitted in infectious ward. During 2 years study, 60 patients have admitted and 65.5% out of them presented musculo-skeletal involvement whom 66.9% presented with sacroileitis. So as previous studies, we present, sacroileitis as the most common complication of Brucellosis. There was male to female ratio 3:1 and 75% out of them were in the range of 15-29 years old. Animal contact increases 3 times the chance of involvement. The admitted cases in spring and summer were 3 times more then fall and winter. Cell blood count (CBC) and differentiation was mostly within normal range. ESR in 100% cases was more than 20 mm in the first hour. The most common titers of Wright and 2 ME were 1/320 and 1/160 respectively. Fever more than 38°C and splenomegaly found in 80% and 48% respectively.
