Salvation Jews Western European during the Nazi Regime

Abstract

The article is about saving the Jews in Western Europe during the Nazi persecution, terror and physical liquidation (1933- 1945). The story begins with the territory of Germany and Austria, which became part of the Third Reich. During World War II, Germany invaded Belgium, Holland, Denmark, of France, Greece and Italy. Attention is focused on the forms and methods of rescue, categories rescuers, Righteous world. Substantiates the view that the rescuers came from different backgrounds, have different political and religious preferences, but this did not prevent them feel the fate of the Jewish population, including refugees, to help hard-pressed not only adults but also children. The stories of saving Jews by German, British, American, Spanish, Portuguese and Swiss diplomats that worked in Europe before and during the Nazi regime are considered. Examples of the salvation of Jews by civil servants, both German occupation structures, and representatives of the local administration are shown, German businessmen, clergymen of the Catholic Church and other faiths in France and Italy, representatives of the Dutch, Belgian and French Resistance movements. An example is given of the rescue of Greek Jews by a representative of the British royal family, as well as successful histories of the survival of individual families in occupied Europe and their postwar emigration to the United States and Israel.
