Sanitary-hygienic requirements with respect to decontamination of equipment and tools in dental rooms

Abstract

Introduction: Leading dental practice at the present time is associated with an enormous responsibility. It is important that not only the performance of medical services with the utmost care and knowledge of medicine, but also the use of appropriate security measures to safeguard the patient from microorganisms ubiquitous access, in accordance with one of the fundamental ethical principles applicable in medicine, „Primum non nocere – First, do not harm „. Aim: The aim of this study was to provide hygienic requirements – sanitary facilities for decontamination processes, tools and equipment in dental practices and current legislation. This paper presents guidelines for the processes of disinfection, washing, sterilizing reusable tools and documentation of processes. Brief description of the state of knowledge: Properly conducted disinfection and sterilization processes provide epidemiological safety in dental care procedures. The principles of infection prevention and control can also include proper storage of dental instruments, adherence to aseptic technique, patients anamnesis of previous and current infectious diseases and the use of personal protective equipment by staff. Summary: Prevention of infection for the dental comfort and safety of medical staff, and to prevent exposure of the patient to infection. The proper execution of decontamination processes, as well as their proper documentation, is a prerequisite for professional dental care in daily practice.Key words: dental practice, decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, internal control
