Science and Education in Russia – Chronic Half-decay or a Resource of Development?

Abstract

This article contains the analysis of public as well as teachers’ opinions, including school and academic teachers, on educational reform in Russia It stated that the consequences of the reform led to the fact that a significant proportion of high school graduates has a low level of knowledge This situation is very noticeable in humanities and social science, it concerns e g literature, geography and history It empha- sized that young people’s knowledge of history is incorrect which has crucial meaning for building young generation’s civil identity Consequently, there is a risk of increase in social tension among young people, especially among students The reform also has a negative impact on the social frame of mind of academic teachers They experience considerable discomfort with the fact that on the one hand, the workload has increased significantly, and on the other - there is a risk of job loss due to employment reduction Factors mentioned above have an negative impact on the level of education
