Screening for Bowel Disease in the Population of the Western Region of Ukraine

Abstract
Objective: to analyze and determine the amount of organic and functional bowel diseases in the Western region of Ukraine. Materials and Methods: questioning, fecal calprotectin, fecal occult blood test, analysis on helmint eggs, colonofiberscopy. Conclusions. Studies have shown that the incidence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) was 881 case in general population: IBS with diarrhea — 478, with constipation — 403. As for nonspecific ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, their incidence in this region is 19 cases per 10 000 population, which is significantly lower compared with global data and requires further study. Amount of identified patients with colorectal cancer is 35 persons per 10 000 population that conform to European and global trends. The prevalence of helminthic invasion in the study region — 598 cases (both children and adult population). These data are accurate and comply with data of global screening studies for the above diseases.
