Second Crop Gherkin Cultivation in Siirt Conditions
Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2021, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
The second product is another way of increasing the current production quantity. With the second product, the producer’s time and production area used more efficiently. Gherkin’s cultivation as a second production is more important because it is an industrial vegetable used pickling. In this study, the suitability of Siirt conditions with high temperatures for second cultivation was investigated. The experiment in which Vertina F1, Sertel F1 and Mozaik F1 gherkin varieties were used as plant material was carried out under producer conditions (field) and in four replications. In the research carried out by direct seed sowing after the wheat harvest (17 June); First (3-6 cm fruit length), second (6-9 cm fruit length) and third quality (9-12 cm fruit size) yield and total yield (including all fruit sizes) were observed. In all studied observations, it was determined that Vertina F1 variety had the highest values, Sertel F1 variety ranked second and Mozaik F1 ranked third and last. Siirt conditions were found to be suitable for second crop and for cucurbits that like high temperatures.
